Clement Desalle maintained third in the MXGP - 2nd Apr 2017

Clement Desalle maintained third in the MXGP Clement Desalle of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team maintained third place in the FIM World MXGP Championship standings after two solid rides in the fourth round of the series in Mexico.

The Belgian rode his strongest qualification of the season to earn fourth choice of gate in the GP races to build his confidence for race day, but a mistake in each moto cost him several placing and, with the track surface getting progressively rougher, he wisely decided not to take any unnecessary risks at this early stage of the season.

An error early in the opening moto cost him four places and Clement could only recover one of those before the chequered flag. A similar ride in race two saw him start third before an error dropped him to sixth. The combined results saw him seventh overall in the GP and he remains third in the standings as the world series heads for Europe after the four overseas GPs.

Teammate Jordi Tixier, who damaged a tendon in the groin during the GP of Patagonia, missed the Mexican GP. The Frenchman was operated on by Professor Catonne in Paris last Wednesday and must rest for a few days to allow the wound to heal; he should be able to restart some physical activities within two weeks.
